Featured Presentation: Soil Management & Soil Health Discussion

Running from 12:45 PM – 1:45 PM, this presentation will go beyond basic tillage practices and explore a broader approach to soil management.

The session is broken into three key areas:

🌱 Modifying Soil Structure

Understanding what ideal soil looks like and when tillage can help achieve it. Learn about different tillage types—vertical, horizontal, shallow, and deep—as well as the difference between “cut” and “shear” tillage. The presentation will also touch on tools like penetrometers and other additions to your soil health toolkit.

🌾 Managing Residue

Explore how soil processes residue and how nutrient cycling works. Learn what determines when residue needs processing, how nutrients are released, and how tillage can influence timing—while still maintaining proper soil armour.

⏳ Extending the Growing Season

Discover how fall residue management can set you up for success in the spring. Learn what tools and practices can help you get into the field earlier, and when tillage can be beneficial—or detrimental—ahead of seeding.
